EASTON, Pa. - During the second day of the 2025 Lafayette Classic, men's basketball held Ball State to a record-low-tying 37 points in Kirby Sports Center on Saturday.
The last time Lafayette held a team to that score came against Haverford on Dec. 12, 1996 in the 88-37 win.
Freshman
Shareef Jackson led the way this evening with the squad's second double-double of the season on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Christian Humphrey-Rembert (10) and
Caleb Williams (10) rounded out the trio in double figures, combining for 12 rebounds and three blocks. Lafayette totaled a season-best 85 percent on 20 attempts at the line.
Through the first 10 minutes of the opening half, Ball State posted the original advantage, 10-8.
Neither program had scored a 3-point shot until Humphrey-Rembert halted the drought at 5:31 to bring the Leopards within two points, 14-12. Williams secured a layup just 40 seconds later to even the score.
Lafayette created a 6-1 spurt, using four hits at the charity stripe, to end the lowest-scoring half of the season ahead 23-15.
In the second period, Juwan Maxey added five points in two minutes for Ball State, despite Lafayette keeping its distance, 29-22 at the 12:47.
Williams drained a long-range 3-pointer, giving the Maroon and White momentum for a 42-34 margin near the eight-minute mark.
Lafayette forced a 13-2 run over the next five minutes that was fueled by Jackson's five points, to stay out of reach, 55-37 for the remainder of the game.
Maxey commanded two opponents in double figures with 11 points, shooting 4-of-12 from the field and knocking down three 3-pointers. The Cardinals were held to just 3-of-29 from beyond the arc overall.
The Leopards close out the three-game Classic tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. with Monmouth.
