Leopards Drop 3-0 Final to Colgate on Senior Night

Ulichney led both teams with 11 kills

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette volleyball celebrated the contributions of seniors Emily Gouldrup, Carol Ulichney, Hannah Ehrich-Pollock and Abby Nicholson on Sunday, hosting Colgate for Senior Night. The Raiders captured a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) over the Leopards. Ulichney tallied 11 kills in the contest to lead both teams.

The opening period began with both teams trading scores over the first five points. The Maroon and White held a 3-2 lead prior to a seven-point Colgate run (9-3). The Raiders put away the set down the stretch, using back-to-back kills from Frances Torres and Tiana Owens for a 25-17 final. Ulichney notched five kills while hitting .308. Gouldrup collected 11 receptions and finished with 36 in the match.

Lafayette and Colgate opened set two with a 3-3 tie. During the seventh point of the set, much of the College Hill campus, including Kirby Sports Center, lost electrical power and forced a pause in the action. The game was moved to Phillipsburg High School and resumed at 7:20 p.m. Following the change of venue, both teams continued to fight throughout the set. The Leopards found themselves down 10-9 before a Colgate attack error knotted the score. After Gouldrup's serve found the floor, Lafayette held a 11-10 score. The Raiders responded with a five-point spurt, with kills from Owens, Jordyn Moore and Milan Bayless to retake the lead (15-11). In the period, there were 13 ties and six lead changes. The final lead change came near the conclusion of the set. Colgate secured five of the last six points to win 25-22.

The Raider offense reignited in the final set, slapping down 11 kills alongside a .308 hitting percentage en route to a 25-14 third set win and a 3-0 victory.

For the match, sophomore Auma Mbeche-Odhiambo recorded six kills, while Destiny McKenzie knocked down five. Mackenzie Calhoun and Sophia Wilson finished with 10 and nine assists, respectively. As a team, Lafayette recorded six service aces.

The Leopards host American on Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Holy Cross on Nov. 15 to conclude the season.
