Teresa Kiewiet (13) finished in double figures in Lafayette's 62-51 road loss against the Bison. Bucknell's Ashley Sofilkanich finished with a game-high 20 points.
The hosts led 11-5 after the opening five minutes of action, after Sophia Sabino buried a triple. Sophomore forward
Brynn Beffert cut the Leopards' deficit to four points (13-9) with 3:27 to go in the first period, but the Bison had an answer for each Lafayette basket. The Maroon and White trailed 20-14 after 10 minutes in Lewisburg.
Isabella King dropped in five quick points to begin the second stanza, which was followed by buckets from sophomore duo
Tasha Chudy and Kiewiet. The Leopards trailed 32-23 with 3:42 remaining in the half before a 7-0 run brought them within four points (32-28). Lafayette closed the half with a scoop and score by Antognoli and the Maroon and White were behind 32-30 at the break.
The first two minutes of the second half were scoreless, until a Kiewiet fadeaway knotted the contest at 32 apiece. Sofilkanich and Sabino aided Bucknell in retaking its lead (35-32), but junior guard
Sauda Ntaconayigize hit a huge triple to tie the game again.
The Bison quickly responded with a 10-0 spurt, taking their largest lead of the game (50-38) with 1:26 left in the third quarter. With one period to play, the hosts led 50-40.
Bucknell held on in the end to move to 9-4 in league play. Lafayette only trailed by six points (50-44) early in the stanza, but the Bison's offensive prowess shined through down the stretch.
The keys to Saturday's game were rebounding and free-throw shooting. The hosts took six more foul shots than the Leopards (8-2) and converted their attempts at an 87.5 percent clip. Bucknell also dominated the glass, outrebounding Lafayette by double digits (38-28).
The Maroon and White return to College Hill at 6 p.m. on Wednesday as Holy Cross makes its way to Easton.
