LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Leopards competed in 13 events on the third day of the Patriot League Championships on Friday at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.Â
The Maroon and White eclipsed three Lafayette school records – two individual and one relay.
Senior Kurtis Campbell broke the school record in the men's 400-yard IM prelims and re-broke the record in finals with a time of 3:52.46, collecting ninth.
The men's team of seniors Peter Kawash and Antonio Arena, junior Tommy Weber and sophomore Alexander Reihl surpassed the school record in the 200-yard free relay, finishing in 1:21.05 and taking home sixth place.
Junior Isabella Van Ess captured the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 1:04.64. Van Ess placed 10th in finals with a time of 1:04.65.
Scoring for the men, Kawash reeled in ninth in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 48.94. Reihl placed 18th in the 100 breast (56.31) followed by senior Jack Oleson in 21st (56.85). Senior Avery LeTourneau and junior Sean McManus achieved 21st (49.98) and 22nd (50.04) in the 100-yard fly.
Scoring for the women, senior Maggie Ivie secured 14th in the 100 back with a final time of 57.07. Freshman Sara Fente-Damers earned 21st in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.20. Sophomores Abigail Bebel and Sarah Newman managed 22nd and 23rd in the 400 IM (4:35.82) and 100 breast (1:06.58), respectively.
The women's team of Newman, Ivie and sophomores Natalie Johnson and Caroline Schenck enjoyed a ninth-place finish in the 200 free relay with a final time of 1:35.40.
In the women's 1-meter dive, senior Shaylee Daniels garnered fourth with a score of 251.10. Sophomore Mia Guster placed 13th (227.60) and junior Katie Hensell collected 22nd (220.40).
"I'm very happy with our performances today. Both teams moved up in the team standings with our finals performances," Lafayette head coach James Dailey said. "We're graduating a lot of seniors and their leadership has been amazing. The quality of our performances is a direct result of their leadership and role modeling."
The Maroon and White will compete in the fourth and final day of the championships on Saturday, starting with prelims at 10 a.m.
