Army Outlasts Women’s Hoops in West Point

Guards Abby Antognoli, Teresa Kiewiet and Sauda Ntaconayigize all finish in double figures

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lafayette women's basketball took a trip to Army on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in a 75-48 defeat at Christl Arena.

Sophomore guard Teresa Kiewiet paced the Leopards in scoring with 14 points, while Abby Antognoli (10) and Sauda Ntaconayigize (11) also netted double-digit point totals. Sam Tillson and Trinity Hardy were Army's leading scorers, finishing with 14 points apiece.

The Leopards were first to strike and they gained a 6-2 lead early in the quarter after Kiewiet knocked down a pair of free throws. The Black Knights battled their way back, tying the game at nine points apiece thanks to a bucket by Taylor Wilson. Army controlled the last five minutes of the period with a 10-3 run and led 19-12 after 10 minutes.

Sophomores Tasha Chudy and Kiewiet scored back-to-back buckets to open the second stanza, leaving Lafayette only down five points (21-16). Chudy knocked down another big basket at the 7:17 mark, but then Army got hot. The hosts held Lafayette to just five points and dropped in 16 of their own on their way to a commanding 16-point lead (39-23) at the intermission.

Lafayette found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, led by Ntaconayigize's eight points. The Maroon and White posted a 6-2 run to get the half going and more Kiewiet free throws brought Lafayette within 10 points of the hosts (41-31). Ntaconayigize buried a triple later in the quarter (2:30), cutting the Leopards' deficit to single digits (48-40). Army kept its foot on the gas as the period wound down, granting it a 52-42 lead.

The Black Knights secured their 13th win of the Patriot League slate with a decisive fourth quarter, outscoring Lafayette 23-6. Army's path to victory was highlighted by rebounding and the turnover battle. The hosts grabbed 10 more boards than the Leopards (35-25) and committed half as many turnovers (12-6).

The Maroon and White return to College Hill at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the program's Senior Day and a matchup with Boston U.
