Third Period Push Powers Women’s Lacrosse Over Wagner

Leopards are off to best start since 2020

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team used six goals in the third quarter to power through Wagner, 13-9, on Wednesday evening at Fisher Stadium.

Lafayette is now 3-1 overall, its best start through the first four games since 2020. Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Molly Terrraciano made a career-high 17 saves in the victory.

Haleigh Albrecht and Emma Elmen paced the Leopards with four points each on three goals/one assist and one goal/three assists, respectively.

The Maroon and White faced a 3-1 deficit after the first period. Wagner continued to lead at halftime, 6-3, using three second-quarter goals despite Lafayette's Sophia Spallone and Annie Madden's book-ending tallies.

To open the third period, the Leopards made a 5-0 run down to the five-minute mark. Kristin Igneri (3), Olivia Hover and Albrecht contributed in the spurt to steal the advantage, 8-6.

Wagner added two goals in the following four minutes for an 8-8 tie at 1:49. Spallone retaliated with her second of the day at 1:15 to stay on top 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lafayette outscored Wagner 4-1 thereafter to seal the deal. Annie Madden and Elmen's goals were followed up by a pair from Albrecht, including the dagger with one second on the clock before time expired.

The Maroon and White held the advantage in draw controls (14-11) and ground balls (24-21) while Wagner attempted more shots (30-28). The Leopards cleared 17-of-20 compared to the Seahawks 14-of-17. Wagner's goalkeeper, Grace DeCarolis, made eight saves.

Next up, the Leopards host Old Dominion on Saturday at noon for the Diabetes Awareness Game.
