DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Lafayette baseball team dropped game two of its series at Davidson, 15-5, on Saturday at Wilson Field.
The Leopards opened the scoring in the top of the first, scoring on an RBI-single by freshman
Jack Mislan, and then senior
Michael Zarrillo crossed the plate when a Lafayette runner was caught in a rundown, making the score 2-0.
Davidson responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead, scoring on two RBI-doubles, an RBI-single, a sac fly and a bases-loaded walk. The Wildcats scored a run in the second and two more in the third, making the tally 8-2 after three innings of play.
Lafayette responded in the sixth, scoring on an RBI-single by freshman
Alex Barrist and a Davidson error, to make the tally 8-4.
The Leopards again cut into the Davidson lead in the seventh, as junior
Ethan Swidler ripped an RBI-double to left center field to bring the score to 8-5.
The Wildcats tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the inning and then scored five more runs in the eighth, making the score 15-5 and triggering the 10-run rule, which made the final score 15-5.
Isaac Fix collected the win for the Wildcats, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, four runs and striking out three. Jason Ban earned the save, throwing 2.0 innings while surrendering one hit and recording a strikeout. Sophomore
Owen Basso took the loss, throwing 2.2 innings while giving up five runs on three hits with a strikeout.
The Leopards are next in action when they close out their three-game series at Davidson on Sunday at 1p.m.
