WASHINGTON, D.C.- Women's lacrosse overcame a five-goal deficit to take down American, 10-8, on Wednesday afternoon in the Jacobs Complex.
Senior midfielder
Sophia Spallone recorded a team-high four goals on five shots for four points to tie her career high.
Becca Frank scored two goals to put the Eagles out front by the five-minute mark in the first quarter.
American's Kellie Linehan, Reagan Murdoch and Maddy Spratt added tallies in the opening four minutes of the second period to extend the opposing run to 5-0 at 10:54.
Spallone put the Leopards on the board at 8:42, trailing 5-1. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. native closed the gap to three at 8:07 with her second tally of the day.
Freshman
Annie Madden's free-position goal made it a 5-3 game, forcing the Eagles into a timeout at 6:17 in the second quarter. Her classmate,
Sadie Martiesian, netted the fourth unanswered goal for Lafayette, ending the first half down 5-4.
The Leopards continued the run to six goals, pushing past the 12-minute mark in the third period.
Haleigh Albrecht (14:06) and
Olivia Kelley (11:34) were credited with the tallies to take a 6-5 lead.
American added one free-position goal which was quickly overpowered by a trio of Leopard goals.
Kristin Igneri, Spallone and
Sara Rogers allowed Lafayette a 9-6 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
The Eagles scored twice more to close the gap to one, 9-8 by 5:28.
Spallone concluded the contest with an insurance goal at 2:43, a free-position shot for her fourth goal of the afternoon, to win 10-8.
The Leopards held the advantage in draw controls (12-10), ground balls (12-11) and shots (27-24). Lafayette cleared 16-of-19 attempts compared to American's 15-of-18.
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Molly Terraciano made seven saves to aid in the first conference victory of 2025. Her Eagle counterpart, Caleigh Forti, also saved seven shots.
Next up, the Leopards host Army on Saturday at noon during the Athlete Ally game.
