EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette men's lacrosse dominated Bucknell 15-4 on Friday night for the program's fourth-straight win. The Maroon and White's third conference victory of 2025 was led by a remarkable defensive performance that limited Bucknell's offense, which averaged 14.8 goals per game, to just four scores.
Senior captain
Riley Sullivan continued to lead the offense, finishing the evening with a seven-point performance (three goals and four assists). Fellow attacker
Joshua Heaney scored a hat trick in the first quarter and tallied two more before the final whistle.
Lafayette dominated the first half of play, and its seven-goal first quarter set the tone out of the gate. The hosts wasted very little time getting on the board, thanks to Heaney's first score of the day at the 12:23 mark. The Leopards had five different goal scorers in the first stanza, which featured tallies by
Jack Irish,
Nick Muller,
Cade Kilbride, Heaney and Sullivan.
The Leopards opened the second period with a seven-goal advantage and they tacked on two more in the quarter. Freshman attackman
Benjamin DiBattista found the back of the net with 8:57 to play and Heaney notched his fourth of the day just over five minutes later (3:01). Lafayette's first-half defense made it difficult to clear and hold offensive possessions, leaving it with a 9-0 lead at the intermission.
Freshman
Joseph Duggan and Sullivan both added scores early in the third quarter, before Will Hopkins got Bucknell on the board with 8:42 to go. Neither team could get rolling as the period wore on, and Lafayette led 11-1 with 15 minutes to go.
Bucknell scored three-straight goals to begin the final stanza before a Heaney score silenced the visiting fans. Lafayette found nylon two more times in the final seven minutes and when the final buzzer blew, it advanced to 7-3 on the season.
Junior goalkeeper
Joe Doherty had a monster outing between the pipes, making 13 saves and only conceding four goals. Luke Renaud got the start for Bucknell, but after being pulled early, teammate Parker Day stepped in and made eight saves.
Lafayette is back in action at 7 p.m. next Friday as it takes a trip to Annapolis, Md. to face Navy.
