BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore
Luke Caucci ripped his first collegiate home run in the third inning of Sunday's series finale, but Lehigh pulled away to an 8-1 final at Legacy Park.
The Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, scoring on an RBI-single to right field by Adian Quinn, a Lafayette error and a sacrifice fly by Trystan Crawford. Lehigh made the score 4-0 in the second on an RBI-double by Ryan Davis.
In the third, Lafayette got on the board as Caucci lined a solo home run over the fence in left field to cut the Lehigh advantage to 4-1. The home run was the first collegiate home run for the Conshohocken, Pa. native.
The Mountain Hawks drove in a run in the fourth on another RBI-double by Davis and then in the seventh Lehigh scored three more runs, to bring the tally to 8-1.
In the ninth, the Maroon and White loaded the bases with no outs. Junior
Bode Grieve was hit by a pitch and consecutive singles by freshman
Jack Mislan and sophomore
Ryan Grace followed. Caucci popped up to second base, then back-to-back Leopards struck out and the Lafayette Nine were not able to push another run across the plate, making the final score 8-1.
David Andolina earned the win, working five scoreless innings out of the bullpen and striking out four. Freshman
Trey Zaffiro took the loss, pitching one inning while allowing four runs on three hits.Â
Lafayette is next in action when it travels to Penn on Tuesday for a game at 3 p.m.
