Leopards post five-plus goals in three quarters for 21-6 win

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Sara Rogers' four goals commanded Lafayette's offensive unit to a 21-6 win over Central Connecticut State on Wednesday afternoon on Arute Field.

The Leopards began the game with a season-high seven goals in the first period alone to take a 7-2 lead. Rogers and Olivia Hover each contributed two goals in the stretch.

Lafayette added six more goals in the second quarter against the Blue Devils' lone tally at 6:31 for a 13-3 advantage at halftime. Rogers posted her remaining pair of goals at 10:40 and 0:02 in addition to freshman duo Annie Madden and Andie Pedatella's shots before the break.

The Maroon and White held Central Connecticut State to one goal at 12:44 in the third period while continuing to attack the cage with a 5-0 run. Sadie Martiesian, Haleigh Albrecht, Evelyn Guyer, Kendra Daly and Isabelle Pohmer all scored within two minutes of the next goal from 7:47 to 0:23.

To lead the Blue Devils in every quarter, the Leopards once again outgunned the hosts, 3-2, in the fourth. Hover's third and Pedatella's second goals of the day combined with Mia Putzi's first career score to make for a season-high 15-goal victory, 21-6.

Lafayette held the advantage in draw controls (24-5), ground balls (19-13), shots (41-11) and clears (14-15 to 13-20). The Leopards went 4-for-10 in free-position shots, while the hosts picked up 2-of-4.

Molly Terraciano and Kennedy Carr split time in the net for Lafayette, each making one save on four shots faced. Their Blue Devil counterparts, Jaydn Jones and Maeve Tobler, combined for 15 saves.

Next up, the Leopards (4-2) will continue on the road at Villanova on March 12. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
