Eight-Goal Fourth Quarter Pushes No. 14 Colgate Past Leopards

Lafayette continues its three-game home stand at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against NJIT

EASTON, Pa. – No. 14 Colgate outscored Lafayette 8-2 in the final quarter, including eight-straight goals to close a 19-14 victory on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.

Senior captain Riley Sullivan had a day for the Leopards, posting totals of five goals and seven assists for a monstrous 12-point day. Jack Turner led Colgate in scoring with six goals, while Liam Connor added two goals and four assists.

The opening eight minutes featured six goals, after Sullivan knotted the game at three apiece with 7:02 to go. Colgate's Hunter Drouin found the back of the net a minute later to take a 4-3 lead. Both defenses stepped up to finish the stanza, going six minutes without a tally.

Casey Quinson extended the Raiders' lead (14:01,5-3), but the momentum then quickly shifted in favor of Lafayette. The Maroon and White put together a 5-0 run, which featured goals from Sullivan (3) and freshmen Mason Hill (1) and Nicholas Blalock (1). Both teams exchanged goals once more and Lafayette led 9-6 at the intermission.

The visitors outscored the Leopards 5-3 in the third period, highlighted by four goals from Turner. Sophomore Jack Massotto and freshmen Benjamin DiBattista and Blalock each fired home for Lafayette in the quarter, which gave it a narrow 12-11 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Hill and DiBattista guided Lafayette to a three-goal advantage (14-11) with scores early in the stanza (13:04). Colgate quickly responded with a hefty 8-0 unanswered run to capture its fifth win of the season and second in conference play.

Junior goalkeeper Joe Doherty made 13 saves in between the pipes and his counterpart Matt LaCombe was called into action eight times. Senior faceoff specialist Evan Prince got the better of his matchup at the x, winning 20 of his 34 attempts (58.8 percent).

The Leopards have a quick turnaround as they host NJIT at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for the team's Mental Health Awareness Game.
