EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team took Colgate to the final minutes in a 14-13 loss on Saturday afternoon in Fisher Stadium.
Seniors
Sara Rogers and
Haleigh Albrecht bookended Colgate's three-goal run in the first period to trail 3-2.
The Leopards kept the deficit to one, 6-5 by the six-minute mark of the second quarter with tallies from
Sophia Spallone,
Sadie Martiesian and Albrecht.
Rogers added her second goal of the day at 4:38 for her 100
th career point while on College Hill. The Madison, N.J. native is the 27
th Leopard to do so in program history.
Aubrey McMahon (2) and Caroline Panzirer kept the opponents on top at halftime, 9-7.
Colgate burst out of the break with a three-goal streak to extend the advantage to 12-7 by 10:12.
Albrecht, Rogers,
Evelyn Guyer and
Olivia Kelley crafted Lafayette's own unanswered run through the remainder of the third period to close the gap to one, 12-11.
Both programs secured two goals in the remaining quarter with
Olivia Hover and
Kristin Igneri helping the Leopards tie the contest at 13-13 in the last six minutes of play.
Colgate's Kait Henning would then claim the game-winner at 2:49 on a free-position attempt.
The Leopards held the advantage in draw controls (18-12) and ground balls (21-18). Colgate took 34 shots to Lafayette's 25. The Raiders finished all 15 clear attempts as opposed to the Maroon and White's 9-of-16.
Lafayette's goalkeeper
Molly Terraciano made seven saves, while her Raider counterparts, Lauren Solis and Madison Stevens, made four each.
