ANNAPOLIS, Md.- No. 22 Navy outscored Lafayette women's lacrosse, 18-4, on Saturday afternoon in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The Mids burst onto the field in the initial quarter, firing out a string of seven consecutive goals by the five-minute mark.
Sara Rogers was the answer for Lafayette, getting the Leopards on the board at 3:27 with an inside shot assisted by
Sadie Martiesian.
Rogers added two more tallies to finish her hat trick in the second period.
Kristin Igneri and
Annie Madden were credited with her assists.
The Maroon and White trailed 10-3 at the halftime break due to a trio of Navy goals.
Alyssa Chung (2), Ava Yovino (2), Anna Gotterup and Williams continued the Mids' advance in the third quarter as the hosts extended their lead to 13, 16-3.
In the fourth period, Martieisian took advantage of empty space in the center of the arc and netted a fourth goal for Lafayette, down 16-4 at 14:24.
Navy kept out of reach thereafter with scores by Chung (8:12) and Emily Messinese (5:41).
The Mids held the advantage in draw controls (21-3), ground balls (20-19) and shots (37-11). Navy secured 16-of-17 clears compared to Lafayette's 17-for-28.
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Molly Terraciano made eight saves while her Navy counterparts, Felicia Giglio and Emma Richardell, made one apiece.
Next up, the Leopards host Lehigh on Wednesday to close out the regular season. Opening draw for the 2025 iteration of the Rivalry is set for 7:30 p.m. in Fisher Stadium.
