Mislan’s Clutch Hits Power Leopards to Sweep of Bucknell

Lafayette won game one, 2-1 and game two, 3-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Jack Mislan provided two clutch go-ahead runs as Lafayette baseball swept a doubleheader at Bucknell, winning game one, 2-1, and game two, 3-2, on Sunday.

In game one, after four and a half scoreless innings, Bucknell struck first on an RBI-triple by Michael Trommer, to take a 1-0 lead.

The Leopards tied the game in the sixth. With freshman Liam Ebbs on second, classmate Alex Barrist laced an RBI-double down the left field line to tie the score, 1-1.

The Maroon and White took the lead 2-1 in the ninth. Mislan placed an RBI-single through the right side, scoring sophomore Matt Colella and giving Lafayette the lead. The 2-1 advantage for the Leopards proved to be the final score.

Sophomore Owen Basso earned his second win of the season, working scoreless eighth and ninth innings. Jonathan Adelmann took the loss, pitching one inning while giving up a run and two hits. Lafayette senior starter senior Joe Skapinetz recorded a stellar outing, tossing 7.0 innings and recording 10 strikeouts.

In game two, Lafayette took a 1-0 advantage in the second on an RBI-single to the right side by junior Bode Grieve. Then in the third, the Bison responded with two runs, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Lafayette Nine knotted the tally, 2-2, in the fifth. With Ebbs on third, junior Ethan Swidler lined an RBI-single to right field.

In the eighth, Mislan hit an RBI-single to shortstop, staking Lafayette to a 3-2 lead, which held on to be the final score.

Ben Waterman collected the win, hurling 5.0 scoreless innings in relief. Waterman allowed just two hits and struck out two. Hadley Maxwell took the loss, throwing 3.0 innings, surrendering a run on two hits.

Next up, the Leopards return to Easton for a mid-week contest against St. Peter's on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
