Leading Off
The last three-game set of the 2025 season for the Leopards comes against Boston University. The Maroon and White are scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon before a noon start on Sunday.Â
Last Time Out
Lafayette last saw action on April 26-27 against Army, dropping all three games to the Black Knights. Army took game one, winning an 11-4 decision. Game two needed extra innings to decide a victor. After the Black Knights took the lead in the second inning, the Leopards responded in the third after an error allowed Mary Grace O'Neill to cross the plate. Lafayette starter Parker Rowden kept Army in check, allowing just two earned runs over 7.1 innings. In extras, the Black Knights put the go-ahead run on base with a one-out double. Sophia-Alvarez Backus relieved Rowden, immediately securing the second out. A two-out RBI-double brought home Army's second run of the game. Two runs were all that the visitors needed, capturing a 2-1 final in eight innings. The Maroon and White came up short in the final game of the series, losing 6-4, but not before late-game excitement. Olivia Catalina and O'Neill reached base to start the bottom half of the seventh inning, with both advancing into scoring position after a Caroline Hall groundout to the pitcher. With one out, Regan Dillon stepped up to the plate and shot a ball for two RBI and her second double of the game to make it 6-3. A double from Katie Harrington scored Dillon, cutting the deficit to two runs. The Leopards were unable to complete the comeback, as the score finalized 6-4.Â
Sophomore Surge
Classmates Katie Harrington and Regan Dillon have been dependable options for interim head coach Kelliner Croushore, starting 33 and 30 games, respectively. Both Harrington and Dillon have tallied three home runs this season. Dillon ranks second on the team in average (.293), while Harrington leads the Leopards with 17 RBIs.
In conference play, the duo has risen to the occasion. When playing against Patriot League opponents, Harrington has collected 15 hits, six of which were doubles. Dillon owns a .436 average and a .718 slugging percentage, both of which are Lafayette-highs in league games.
On The Move
With two steals against Army, senior Mary Grace O'Neill moved into third place for career stolen bases. O'Neill has been a threat on the basepaths and within the batter's box, as the Pleasantville, N.Y. native leads the Patriot League with a .435 batting average this season.
The Leopards team batting average has also improved in 2025, hitting .255 this season. The Maroon and White's average is nearly 60 points higher than last season (.196).
The Opponent
The Boston University Terriers enter the final series of the season at 33-17, with a conference record of 11-4. The Terriers have already punched their ticket to the Patriot League Tournament, but could use this weekend to capture home-field advantage.
Boston last faced off against Bryant in a Wednesday doubleheader, capturing a 2-1 decision and a 3-2 final. The Terriers boast a potent offense, powered by junior Brooke Deppiesse and sophomore Kylie Doherty. Deppiesse paces the Patriot League in on-base percentage (.497), triples (6) and stolen bases (13) while hitting for a .417 average with 33 RBIs. Doherty is in the midst of a career year, swatting a conference-high 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. Claiming a .359 batting average and eight doubles, Doherty has walked 22 times while collecting 60 hits. BU's ace within the circle is junior Kasey Ricard, who ranks first in the Patriot League in ERA (2.07), innings pitched (212.2) and strikeouts (201). Ricard has started 29 games, racking up a 22-10 record, while allowing opponents to hit .225 against her.
