BOSTON, Mass. – Boston U. took both ends of a Saturday doubleheader, winning 9-1 and 5-0. The outcomes ended the Leopards' chance to claim the final spot in the four-team Patriot League Tournament field.
In game one, the Terriers got things going in the second inning, scoring three runs on three hits. The first run came home via a Kyomi Apalit squeeze bunt. An pinch-hit RBI-double followed from Kieren McHugh for the 3-0 lead.
The Leopards got on the board in the top of the fourth.
Regan Dillon ripped a 2-2 fastball to the wall in left centerfield to score
Emma Ahlborn. Lafayette trailed 3-1.
The Terriers tacked on three more runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Livia Christopher and Kylie Doherty each drove in baserunners and another runner scored via throwing error. Then, the hosts put away the game in the sixth inning, again scoring three runs. Brooke Deppiesse had the big hit with a two-run double in the 9-1 final.
Makayla Lecky took the loss, surrendering six earned runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings. BU's Kasey Ricard pitched an efficient game, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
In game two, the Leopards were limited two hits in a 5-0 final.
The game was scoreless through three and a half innings before Boston U. broke through. Runs kept coming in threes for the Terriers. A pinch-hit single for McHugh scored two runs and Walsh doubled home another off Leopard starter
Parker Rowden.
Walsh put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, lifting a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left centerfield for the 5-0 final.
Rowden was handed the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Danika Nell claimed the circle victory after holding the Leopards scoreless.
The teams will close out the series on Sunday with a single game beginning at 11 a.m.
