Women's Soccer Battles Drexel to a Scoreless Draw

Plowright had two shots for the Leopards

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's soccer threatened on several occasions, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 0-0 tie against Drexel on Sunday in front of packed crowd at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

The Leopards' best opportunity to score in the first half came in the just the fourth minute, when senior Katrina Santelli got to the doorstep of the goal, but her shot went just to the left of the cage.

Lafayette tallied one shot in the first half. The Dragons recorded four shots in the first 45 minutes, as the teams headed to the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.

In the second half, the Maroon and White had several excellent scoring chances. In the 49th minute, junior Heather Plowright rocketed a shot towards the goal and Drexel goalkeeper Sammy Widnick made her first save of the match. Junior Ava Murphy pushed Widnick to make another athletic save in the 72nd minute on a shot close to the goal, keeping the score 0-0.

Both teams' defenses controlled the pace of the match, as neither the Dragons nor the Leopards could score, and the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Lafayette finished the match with seven shots, while Drexel had 11. The Maroon and White were led by Plowright, who had two shots.

Sophomore Catherine Apker played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded six saves. Apker recorded her second shutout of the season. Widnick also played 90 minutes with four saves.

All of Lafayette's athletic teams were in attendance at the game which doubled as the department of athletics "welcome back" event.

The Leopards are next in action when they travel to Seton Hall for a match on Thursday at 6 p.m.
