FARMVILLE, Va.- Lafayette field hockey scored a season-high six goals to overpower Longwood in a shutout road victory on Friday afternoon.
Freshman
Rosalie van Gool struck first for the Leopards just three minutes into the game, earning a 1-0 advantage. Her strong penalty corner sweep was assisted by
Stella Malinowski at stick-stop and
Linda Nova as the inserter.
Malinowski helped first-year
Lauren Kurek score at 11:34, sending a long reverse hit to the back post. Kurek muscled her way past the Lancer defender to extend Lafayette's scoring run to 2-0.
In the second period, Kurek helped
Maddie Evans to her own rebound goal at 17:54 for a 3-0 Lafayette lead.
Lea Good added on a fourth goal after halftime (35:23), using her skill to avoid a defender at the top of the circle and place a reverse chip into the corner of the net.
Nova got in on the action at one minute into the final quarter, ripping the ball off of a Longwood defender in the circle and taking it straight to the goal.
Josephine van Wijk assisted Good's second tally of the day at 58:10 to conclude the game with a 6-0 run overall.
The Maroon and White held the advantage in total shots (28-3) and penalty corners (8-4).
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made one save in her third consecutive shutout of the season. Her Lancer counterpart, Sophie Mooldijk, made seven stops.
The Leopards remain in Virginia to play William & Mary on Sunday at noon.
