WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Lafayette field hockey team was knocked off in the final three minutes of play at William & Mary, 2-1, on Sunday morning.
The Leopards outshot the Tribe 7-3 in the first 45 minutes, yet the score stayed locked at 0-0 by the third period break.
Senior forward
Catalina Rubel, assisted by
Olivia Krey, struck first with a rebound goal at 53:05.
The Tribe retaliated at 57:56 to even the contest at 1-1, looking to send the teams into extra minutes.
William & Mary's Josie Mae Gruendel was credited with the game-winning goal at 59:38 during a last-minute penalty corner attempt.
Lafayette held the advantage in total shots (11-8) as the Tribe received more penalty corners (6-2).
Senior goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made a pair of saves in the first Lafayette loss of the season. Her William & Mary counterpart, Alexandra de Jesus, made five.
The Leopards travel to Temple on Friday at 3 p.m.
