Leopards Battle Penn to a 2-2 Tie

Murphy scores her second goal of the year

EASTON, Pa. - Junior Nadia Zaffanella and junior Ava Murphy both scored goals as Lafayette battled Penn to a 2-2 tie on Sunday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

The Leopards got into the scoring column in the seventh minute, as passes by junior Sofia Ruggiero and sophomore Emma Harmon found Zaffanella. Zaffanella chipped a shot into the goal for her second score of the of the season and the 10th of her Lafayette career, giving the Leopards a 1-0 lead.

The Quakers equalized the match in the 45th minute after the ball ping-ponged around the box before Hailey Adamsky sent the ball into the goal, tying the match, 1-1.

In the second half, Penn took the lead in the 63rd minute after Anuli Okafor connected with Abbey Cook. Cook took a shot on the doorstep of the goal to give the Quakers to a 2-1 lead.

The Maroon and White knotted the score in the 65th minute. Zaffanella passed to Murphy, who ripped a one-time shot into the goal to make the match a 2-2 deadlock, which proved to be the final.

Lafayette finished the match with six shots, while Penn had nine. The Maroon and White were led by senior Katrina Santelli and Zaffanella, who had two shots.

Junior Catherine Apker played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded six saves. Megan Graves also played 90 minutes, with two saves.

The Leopards are next in action when they travel to NJIT for a match on Thursday at 7 p.m.
