Leopards Capture First Win at Bucknell Since 2013

Kiewiet and Ntaconayigize combined for 34 points in the victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Guards Teresa Kiewiet (20), Sauda Ntaconayigize (14) and Haylie Adamski (12) all finished in double figures to lead Lafayette to a 62-49 victory over Bucknell. Wednesday's victory marked the Maroon and White's first triumph at Sojka Pavilion since the 2012-13 season (Feb. 16, 2013; 66-61 W, OT).

Adamski scored the first of her 12 points with a floater at the 9:36 mark, but Bucknell snatched the lead moments later, after Isabella Casey buried a triple. The Leopards responded with an 8-2 run fueled by Adamski, Kiewiet and freshman forward Maddison Krug. The teams traded buckets as the quarter progressed and Lafayette took a six-point lead (14-8) when Kiewiet knocked down a triple off the feed from freshman point guard Talia Zurinskas. After 10 minutes in Lewisburg, the Leopards held a 14-11 advantage.

Desirae Ashton converted a turnaround jumper at the 9:54 mark in the second quarter which made it a one-point game. Lafayette dominated the following minute and a half with a 9-3 run that featured points from junior guard Rosie Scognamiglio (5) and Zurinskas (4). Head coach Kia Damon-Olson's group led by as many as 12 points (30-18) in the quarter, but Bucknell turned up the heat with just under four minutes to go. The Bison put together a 12-0 run that silenced Lafayette's momentum and evened the score (30-30) heading into the break.

The Leopards dropped in 16 points in the third stanza, while holding Bucknell to just eight. The half began with a 7-0 Lafayette run, until Tuana Coskun halted the spurt with a hook shot at the 5:38 mark. Ashton eventually made it a one-point game (37-36), but huge baskets from Kiewiet, Krug and Zurinskas restored a seven-point advantage. Krug concluded her evening with career highs of 18 rebounds and six blocks and she tacked on four points and two assists. The Maroon and White maintained a 46-38 lead with one quarter to play.

Lafayette kept its foot on the gas in the final period to capture its seventh win of the season and third in Patriot League play. Bucknell made it a seven-point game at one point (7:41), but the Leopards' dynamic offense proved to be too much to handle.

Rebounding and three-point shooting were the pillars of the team's 94th meeting with the Bison. Lafayette grabbed nine more boards than Bucknell (44-35) and knocked down nine triples compared to the Bison's four.

The Maroon and White remain on the road in their next matchup when they travel north to Worcester, Mass. for a 2 p.m. tip-off against Holy Cross.
