EASTON, Pa.- Freshman
Georgia Swarr contributed a team-high five points in the 17-11 home-opener victory against Merrimack on Saturday morning.
Swarr, an attacker from Glen Allen, Va., scored four goals and made one assist. Three Leopards added four points (
Olivia Hover,
Olivia Kelley and
Evelyn Guyer) with an additional six on the board overall.
Lafayette sprinted out to the opening lead, 4-2, in the first period.
The Warriors got as close as two, 6-4, with back-to-back goals by the 10-minute mark of the second quarter. Swarr tallied her second and third goals by the end of the half to take a 9-6 advantage.
The Maroon and White outscored Merrimack 4-1 in the third period to run away with the lead, 13-7.
Despite two Leopard goals to start the final quarter, Merrimack retaliated with four unanswered from 8:40 to 5:27. The Warriors trailed by four, 15-11, in the remaining four minutes of play.

Merrimack held the advantage in draw controls (18-12), ground balls (28-22) and shots (36-29). Lafayette caused 10 turnovers and went 15-18 during clears. The Warriors had 12 turnovers, but secured 8-of-12 clear attempts.
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Kennedy Carr made a career-high 12 saves in her first collegiate start. Her opposing counterparts, Sydney Cogliano and Hannah Lawrence, respectively made five and four saves.
Next up, the Leopards travel to Columbia on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
