Toner Nets Four Goals in Columbia Loss

Five Leopards contribute points against Ivy League foe

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Women's lacrosse was knocked off by Columbia, 19-10, on Wednesday afternoon at Kraft Field.

Freshman midfielder Emma Toner paced the Leopards with four goals from four shots. The Oyster Bay, N.Y. native added a ground ball and a draw control.

Columbia burst out onto the field in the opening quarter, outscoring Lafayette 5-2. Kristin Igneri (13:22) and Charlotte Ullman (4:07) were credited with the Leopard goals.

The hosts tallied another five goals before halftime, taking a 10-5 lead at the break. Toner scored twice while Isabelle Pohmer added her first goal of the day in that time.

The Leopards struck first to kick off the third period with Pohmer's next tally at 12:13, trailing 10-6. Columbia then netted three unanswered goals to end the period on top, 13-6.

In the final quarter, Igneri stopped the Leopard skid with a goal at 14:37, but was quickly shut down by another 3-0 run by the Lions to stay out of reach, 16-7. Toner's final pair of tallies (6:24, 2:14) bookended Ullman's second goal (4:05) in the final decision.

The hosts held the advantage in draw controls (18-12) and shots (39-29). Ground balls were tied at 14 apiece. Lafayette secured 10-of-11 clears compared to Columbia's 15-of-17.

The Lions were commanded by Cecelia Messner's 11 points from five goals and six assists, including three draw controls.

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Kennedy Carr made five saves, while her Columbia counterpart, Ava Kimche, made seven.

Next up, the Leopards return to Fisher Stadium on Saturday for Mount St. Mary's at noon.
