Kelley and Martiesian Combine for Eight Goals in Mount St. Mary’s Win

Women’s lacrosse secures second home victory of the season

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette outscored Mount St. Mary's 13-7 in the first half of Saturday morning's 17-12 win at Fisher Stadium. The Leopards improved to 2-1 on the season.

Olivia Kelley totaled a team-high six points on four goals and two assists while Sadie Martiesian contributed four goals. The pair grabbed five ground balls and caused one turnover together. To lead the Mountaineers, Brooke Molchanoff scored four goals through 10 shots.

In the first quarter, Mount St. Mary's burst out with four unanswered goals by 10:26. The Leopards retaliated after a quick timeout to add three tallies before the opponent's Haylee Bittinger scored on a free position shot (6:29), to trail 5-3. Lafayette resumed its offensive drive and put up four more to take a 7-5 advantage into the two-minute break.

In the second quarter, the hosts outscored Mount St. Mary's 5-2. Martiesian commanded the Leopards with three goals by halftime, leading 12-7.

The third period had the lowest scoring output for both teams despite the Leopards jumping out to a seven-goal advantage, 15-8, by 2:13. Lafayette limited the Mountaineers to a single goal at 8:05 from Morgan Ortega. Isabelle Pohmer had two of Lafayette's three goals in that time with Martiesian recording her fourth of the day at 5:32.

The opponents attempted a comeback with four goals, two by Molchanoff, in the final quarter. Kelley (13:37) and freshman Georgia Swarr (11:19) were credited with Lafayette's last two tallies in the 17-12 outcome.

The Maroon and White held the advantage in draw controls (17-13), ground balls (19-14) and shots (31-30). The Leopards successfully cleared all 13 attempts compared to the Mountaineers (13-14).

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Kennedy Carr made 11 saves. Her opposing counterparts, Camille Thomas (8 saves) and Becca Mullinix (one save), split time in the net. 

Next up, the Leopards host La Salle on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m. while the game will serve as the Leopards' Athlete Ally celebration.
