Lafayette game notes

OPENING TIP
Lafayette makes its way to Worcester for the second-last regular-season road trip today. Previously in the series, the Leopards secured a 74-55 home victory over the Crusaders on Jan. 17. Lafayette never trailed and was paced by Andrew Phillips with 19 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor.

Last time out, men's basketball fell to Lehigh, 78-69, during the 250th series meeting on Saturday. The Leopards still lay claim to the series lead, 150-100. Lafayette shot 50 percent from the floor and tallied 14 3-pointers. Caleb Williams had 26 points and dished six assists to pace the Maroon and White. Senior guard Ryan Pettit made a game-high four steals. Lehigh's 13-0 run deep in the second half put the game away for the opponents. Andrew Urosevic connected on a trio of long range buckets in the spurt.

Sophomore guard Caleb Williams is ranked fifth in the Patriot League at 16.5 points per game. He has scored 10+ points in every game (except at Navy on Jan. 10 and Loyola Md. on Feb. 11) in 2025-26 and has netted 20+ points against foes such as Texas, Mercyhurst, Penn, Georgia Tech, Loyola Md., Boston U., Bucknell and Lehigh. In 14 games, he has made at least three 3-pointers. The Economics major recorded a career-high seven buckets from long distance on Jan. 28 against Bucknell.

Next up, the Leopards return to Kirby Sports Center to host American on Sunday at noon. The last time the Leopards played on a Sunday came against Monmouth (Nov. 30, 2025) in the second-annual Lafayette Classic.

The game was tied 65-65 with 23 seconds on the clock. After a quick timeout for head coach Mike McGarvey to call a play, Williams solely fought his way to the basket for a 67-65 finish as the buzzer sounded.
