Bucknell Captures Series Finale

Barrist and Colella had multi-hit games

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lafayette baseball dropped its series finale to Bucknell, 8-0, on Sunday at Depew Field.

Alex Barrist led the Lafayette bats with a 3-for-5 performance, while Matt Colella finished 2-for-5 with a double and Jack Mislan reached base three times via two walks and a double.

The Bison opened the scoring in the third inning when Michael Trommer doubled home Billy Fluharty, to make the tally 1-0.

Lafayette saw its best chance to score early in the fourth inning when Colella doubled and Mislan and Brandon Doubek both walked, loading the bases with one out. However, Bucknell starter Brady Hoar escaped the jam with back-to-back strikeouts.

The Bison added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth via a Ty Lagoni sacrifice fly, to build a 3-0 lead. Bucknell added two more runs in the seventh, extending its lead to 5-0.

The Leopards threatened again in the eighth inning after singles by Doubek and Teddy Cashman put two runners on with one out, but the rally once again fell short.

The Bison plated three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, to bring their advantage to 8-0, which proved to be the final.

Brady Hoar earned the win for Bucknell, tossing 6.0 shutout innings, while allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Jake Schultz and Hadley Maxwell completed the shutout with three combined innings of scoreless relief.

Gregory Quintana took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Lafayette will look to bounce back in its next contest as it continues its road swing, traveling to Manhattan for a game on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
