PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Behind a late-inning power surge and a dominant bullpen performance, Lafayette defeated La Salle, 5-3, on Wednesday afternoon at DeVincent Field. The Leopards overcame an early deficit by scoring four unanswered runs in the final four frames to secure the comeback win.
Lafayette jumped to an early lead in the first inning, when
Charlie Chropuvka laced an RBI-double to left center field scoring
Alex Barrist (walk). La Salle responded with single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, to take a 3-1 lead. The Leopards' offense came alive in the sixth, as
Will Dobil reached on an error that allowed both
Jack Mislan and
Charlie Chropuvka to cross the plate, tying the game at 3-3.
The Leopards reclaimed the lead for good in the seventh inning, when Mislan launched a solo home run to left field, making the score 4-3. An insurance run followed in the eighth, as
Matt Colella doubled to left, driving in
Ryan Ulisse and extending the cushion to 5-3, which proved to be the final.
Braden Pomponi earned the win, providing 1.1Â scoreless innings of relief.
Alex Payne pitched the final inning to earn the save, allowing one hit and striking out one. Connor Collora took the loss for La Salle, yielding one run on one hit and striking out four over 2.0 innings of work.
Lafayette will return to Patriot league play on Saturday, hosting Army for a series that begins on Saturday at 12 p.m.
