Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Army

Dobil collects four hits for Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette Baseball team dropped its home-opening doubleheader to Army, falling 11-2 in game one and 10-3 in game two on Saturday. 

Army took the lead in game one in the second inning, when the Black Knights scored five runs in the frame for a 5-0 advantage. The Leopards responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Boden Fernsler drove in Jack Mislan, to bring the tally to 5-1.

Army added to its lead, scoring two runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings, to take an 11-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh, Will Dobil added a run to Lafayette's tally, pushing Fernsler across the plate on an RBI-single, which made the final score 11-2.

Tristan Helmick took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing seven runs on five hits, while walking four. Army's Andrew Berg earned the win, throwing a complete game, while allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

In game two, Army again took the lead first, scoring two runs in the third and then adding seven more runs in the fifth for a 9-0 margin.

The Leopards got on the board with a sac fly by Mislan that scored Alex Barrist, cutting the Army advantage to 9-1. The Black Knights responded, scoring a run in the top of the eighth. 

Lafayette scored again in the eighth, as Dobil crossed the plate on an errant throw by the Army catcher. Then in the ninth, Dobil blasted an RBI-single to the wall in left center field, scoring pinch runner Luke Caucci and bringing the final tally to 10-3.

Gregory Quintana took the loss, working four innings, giving up five runs and recording two strikeouts. Kevin Reavey earned the win. Reavey delivered a strong performance, pitching eight innings and allowing just two earned runs on four hits.

Lafayette concludes its series against Army on Sunday at 12 p.m.
