HAMILTON, N.Y. - Lafayette women's lacrosse was knocked off by Colgate, 20-13, on Saturday morning at Crown Field.
The Leopards' main option,
Georgia Swarr, recorded a team-high two goals and one assist to bring her season total to 22 points. A career-high outing for Colgate's Aubrey McMahon was signaled by her nine goals and one assist for 10 points.
In the opening quarter, the Raiders made a 4-1 run to take the lead by 7:52. McMahon had three of the opponent's goals.
Lafayette's Swarr (1:48) and
Olivia Kelley (0:22) contributed tallies to close the gap to one, 4-3, by the initial break.
The Raiders outscored the Leopards 7-5 in the second quarter. Swarr,
Kristin Igneri,
Evelyn Guyer,
Isabelle Pohmer and
Sadie Martiesian all put themselves on the score sheet in the 11-8 deficit.
The Raiders recorded an 8-0 run in the third period, taking a 19-8 advantage to stay out of reach. McMahon (3) and Katie Walsh (2) had the most scores in the 15-minute burst as the Leopards were held scoreless.
Bailey Gurley stopped the skid for Lafayette with her first goal at 13:57 in the final quarter. Kelley cut the margin to nine, 19-10, with a free position shot under the eight-minute mark.
At 2:14, Pohmer was assisted by freshman Charlotte Ulman for a 3-0 Lafayette run, trailing 19-11.
Colgate's Charley Drouin (1:46) and Lafayette's
Emma Toner (0:45, 0:07) finalized the outcome.
The Raiders held the advantage in draw controls (19-15), ground balls (11-9), shots (46-24) and clears (14-14 to 10-16).
Lafayette's senior goalkeeper
Kennedy Carr made nine saves before sharing the net with
Molly Cunningham who added six. Their Raider counterparts, Maddie Stevens and Iris Nofziger, each saved one shot on goal.
Next up, the Leopards remain on the road at Army on Friday at 4 p.m.
