RALEIGH, N.C. – Despite a late-inning power surge, Lafayette fell to No. 13 NC State, 10-4, at Doak Field on Saturday afternoon.
NC State jumped out to an early lead, 2-0 in the first inning, when Dalton Bargo hit a two-run home run. The Wolfpack scored again in the sixth on Mikey Ryan's solo homer to bring the tally to 3-0.
Lafayette's offense broke through in the seventh inning.
Brandon Doubek hit an RBI-single down the left-field line, scoring
Bode Grieve, who had previously walked and stole second base.
The Wolfpack responded with a four-run seventh and a three-run eighth to take control of the game. The seventh-inning rally was highlighted by a three-run home run from Ty Head.
The Leopards mounted a final rally in the top of the ninth inning after
Matt Colella and Grieve reached base on walks. Pinch hitter
Teddy Cashman then launched a three-run home run to deep right to make the final score 10-4.
Trey Zaffiro took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work. Jacob Dudan earned the win, pitching 6.2 innings, while allowing one run on four hits and striking out 10.
