EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette was weathered by American, 12-10, on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.
Freshman attacker
Georgia Swarr recorded a team- and career-high five goals for five points. American was commanded by Kellie Linehan's nine points from six goals and three assists.
In the first period,
Kristin Igneri scored twice (14:05, 3:50) for a 2-2 tie.
The Eagles took the upper hand by halftime, 8-6, using six goals compared to the Leopards' four. Three goals were notched by Swarr, while Linehan matched her for the opponents in the second quarter.
American's Linehan and Anastasia Byrnes helped the squad out to a 10-7 lead through 45 minutes of play.
Sadie Martiesian had Lafayette's lone goal in the third period at 1:25.
The Leopards got as close as two, 12-10, in the final period by outscoring American 3-2. Igneri and Swarr (2) were credited with the tallies.
American held the advantage in draw controls (13-11). The Maroon and White claimed the ground ball (24-21) and shot (26-23) margin. Both teams had 13 successful clears.
Lafayette's goalkeeper
Kennedy Carr made two saves before splitting the net with
Molly Cunningham. Their Eagle counterpart, Brooke Hill, made eight stops.
