EASTON Pa. - Lafayette men's soccer opened its home slate with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Binghamton to secure its first win of the season on Wednesday night at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards wasted little time getting on the board. Just 1:45 into the contest, midfielder Samir Dishnica ripped a shot on target that was saved by Bearcats' goalkeeper Natan Jemaneh Admassu. The rebound fell to the feet of sophomore forward Noah Amankulor, who back heeled the ball into the net with his back to the goal for his first score of the season.
In the 22nd minute, senior forward Roy Biegon doubled the advantage with a quick one-time finish in the side netting, scoring off a pinpoint cross from economics major Griffin Feather.
The Bearcats responded late in the first half, when forward Henry Topp cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 41st minute.
In the 68th minute, a Binghamton foul inside the box handed the Leopards a penalty kick. Dishnica stepped up to the spot and converted the shot to restore Lafayette's two-goal cushion.
Binghamton responded eight minutes later with a goal from Anthony Randazzo that brought the score back to a one-goal game.
Despite the late pressure, the Leopards played strong defense to finish off the 3-2 victory and bring their record to 1-0-1 on the season.
Goalkeeper Harrison Wolfrom played all 90 minutes, making four saves, including three in the second half, to preserve the Lafayette lead.
The Leopards return home on Saturday to face Bryant in a 6 p.m. battle.
