Leopards drop 2-0 Decision to Cornell in Ithaca

Zaffanella records three shots for Lafayette

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Cornell on Thursday at Berman Field.

Lafayette held strong through a busy first half as goalkeeper Catherine Apker made three saves to keep Cornell off the board. The Leopards registered three shots on target before the break with attempts from Ava Murphy, Lily Castle and Era Methoxha, but were unable to break through.

Cornell seized the lead early in the second half when Raya Leikin converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute. Leikin doubled the Big Red advantage in the 81st minute, converting a second penalty kick to secure the 2-0 final score. Lafayette pushed forward late, generating three second-half corner kicks and shots from Nadia Zaffanella and Methoxha, but could not capitalize.

Apker played all 90 minutes in net for the Leopards, recording seven saves. Cornell goalkeeper Sofia Kerrigan recorded four saves over 90 minutes.

Lafayette will return to Easton hosting Wagner on Sunday at 1 p.m.
