EASTON, Pa. – After a 90-minute lightning delay pushed back the start of Tuesday night's matchup, Lafayette men's soccer battled La Salle through a tightly-contested match before falling 1-0 at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards and Explorers were scoreless for nearly the entire first half before La Salle broke through in the 42nd minute. Julius de Vries scored off an assist from Alexandru Zama to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Lafayette looked to answer coming out of the break, with senior Samir Dishnica registering the Maroon and White's first shot of the night in the 48th minute. Forward Noah Amankulor followed with a shot wide in the 60th minute as Lafayette searched for the equalizer.
The Maroon and White continued to push forward in the second half. Forward Roy Biegon and defender Cole Duschang each recording shots. Biegon forced La Salle goalkeeper Maximilian Retzer into a save in the 68th minute, while Duschang sent a shot wide in the 88th minute.
Despite a final push that included a corner kick in the final minute, Lafayette was unable to find the equalizer.
Harrison Wolfrom entered in the 53rd minute and made two saves in his 37 minutes of action. Marco Brok made three saves in the first half as the Lafayette goalkeeping tandem combined for five stops. Retzer played all 90 minutes for La Salle and made one save.
The Leopards are back in Easton on Saturday to face La Salle in their Cancer Awareness game at 4 p.m.
