LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette men's soccer team battled Bucknell through 90 minutes on Saturday evening at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium before a late penalty kick lifted the Bison to a 1-0 victory in the Leopards' Patriot League opener.
The teams played through a scoreless opening half, with Harrison Wolfrom making two saves to keep Bucknell off the scoreboard. Lafayette created several chances of its own, including first-half shots from Samir Dishnica, James Melnick and Roy Biegon.
The Leopards continued to pressure after halftime, with Dishnica recording another shot in the 60th minute. Thomas Clark broke free from his defender in the 65th minute for a one-on-one opportunity, forcing Bucknell keeper Thomas Yerbury to make a sharp save. Both Nicolas Papadopoulos and Griffin Feather also registered second-half shots but neither hit the target.
Wolfrom made his third save in the 82nd minute to keep the match scoreless, but Bucknell broke through in the 88th minute when Jack Lucas converted a penalty kick to give the Bison a 1-0 lead. Lafayette looked for an equalizer in the final minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.
Wolfrom played all 90 minutes and made three saves, while Yerbury recorded two saves to earn the shutout.
The Leopards are back on the road on Tuesday to face Le Moyne at 4 p.m.
