PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Lafayette women's soccer team fought until the final whistle on Sunday afternoon, but a late second-half push was not enough as the Leopards fell, 2-1, to Drexel at Vidas Field.
Drexel struck first in the 32nd minute when Nia Chinapoo converted a feed from Emma Herko to break the ice. Chinapoo doubled the Dragons' cushion in the 74th minute, burying an unassisted left-footed strike to put Lafayette in a 2-0 deficit.
The Leopards refused to quit and continued to press forward late in the contest. In the 89th minute,
Lily Castle found the back of the net off a right-footed shot following a setup from
Nadia Zaffanella to put Lafayette on the board. Midfielder
Heather Plowright nearly leveled the score moments later with a shot on goal, but Drexel held on in the closing minute to secure the result.
Lafayette generated seven total shots during the match, with Castle leading the attack with two, including the lone goal.
Kaitlyn Judge, Plowright,
Abby Giordano and
Alle Hughes also registered shots for the Leopards.
In net for Lafayette, goalkeeper
Catherine Apker played all 90 minutes, making five saves. Drexel goalie Gracie Sullivan made one save over her 90 minutes between the posts.
Lafayette will next host Buffalo on Thursday at 7 p.m.
