EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
The Lafayette-Lehigh women's soccer match will usher in a new era in Lafayette soccer, as the Friday night game will be the first ever played under the lights at Metzgar Fields in Forks Township, Pa. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday morning, but will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Two more night games are slated to be contested under the lights. The men's soccer team will play Siena on Oct. 18 and Patriot League foe Bucknell on Oct. 25. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
"We're very excited to be playing the first soccer game under the lights at Lafayette," said women's soccer head coach Wayne Miller. "The lights will provide us with a new atmosphere for our games and will help to bolster recruiting."
The lights were installed in late September and are part of a host of recent improvements and additions to the Metzgar Fields facilities. Bench shields for soccer, similar to those seen at international competitions, were added in 1999.
More recently a new state-of-the-art AstroTurf XL12 field was installed to be used primarily by the field hockey program. Other teams have already taken advantage of practice time on the all-weather field.
