PITTSBURGH (AP) - Donte Small ran for two touchdowns and Tony Zimmerman threw for one to lead Duquesne to a 23-14 victory over Lafayette on Saturday.
Small, who rushed for 161 yards on 27 carries, broke a 7-7 tie with a 15-yard touchdown run with 6:38 left in the third quarter. He also scored on a 43-yard run with 11:18 left in the fourth quarter.
Zimmerman completed 15 of 28 passes for 223 yards and gave Duquesne (9-1) its first points with a 14-yard pass to Josh Rue on the first play of the second quarter.
Duquesne also scored on a 26-yard field goal by Earl Bellisario in the third quarter.
Lafayette (2-8) scored on a pair of touchdown passes from Marko Glavic to Phil Yarberough. The first one covered 30 yards and gave Lafayette a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The second scoring pass covered 34 yards and came in the fourth quarter.
Glavic completed 19 of 29 passes for 252 yards. Yarberough caught 6 passes for 112 yards.
Yarberough continued his assault on the Lafayette's career and single-season receiving records. The senior set a new single-season mark with 69 receptions, eclipsing the previous record of 65 set by Phillip Ng in 1988. Yarberough also tied Ng's career receptions mark of 152.
Yarberough will have a shot at making the career record all his own, as the Leopards will host one more game this season, the 136th meeting of the storied Lafayette-Lehigh rivalry on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 12:30 p.m.
