Comments on the All-Patriot League Selections

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette College senior split end Phil Yarberough (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon), who became Lafayette's all-time leading receiver this year, was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, and Marko Glavic (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic), who threw for 1,964 yards as a freshman, earned Rookie of the Year honors as selected by the Patriot League head coaches.

Lafayette was also represented with four spots on the first and second All-Patriot League teams, as senior fullback Ryan Mayo (Industry, Pa./Western Beaver) and Yarberough both earned first-team offensive honors and senior defensive back Elijah Beamon (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) and sophomore center Chris Royle (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central) both were named to the second team.

"We're extremely pleased and proud to have our players recognized by the other coaches in the Patriot League, especially the two major awards," said first-year head coach Frank Tavani. "That's a real tribute to both Phil and the class of the coaches in the league. Having Marko Glavic be named Rookie of the Year is tremendous as well. I really believe both players earned the honor and obviously, the coaches around the league agree."

Yarberough and Glavic were two of the league's four major honorees, as Towson University's Andrew Hollingsworth earned both the overall Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards and Lehigh University's Kevin Higgins received Coach of the Year honors.

Ranked fifth in the nation in receiving yards per game (103.55 avg.) and ninth in receptions per game (7.00), Yarberough, who is the fourth Lafayette football player to earn Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honors, broke the four major Lafayette receiving records this season. This season, he recorded single season records of 77 receptions and 1,139 receiving yards, and he concludes his career with 160 receptions for 2,385 yards. Those numbers also place him in eighth place all-time in Patriot League history in both receptions and receiving yards.

Glavic, the seventh Lafayette football player to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Year, began his Lafayette career by stepping into the Princeton game and becoming the hero by completing 18-of-30 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with two seconds remaining. He went on to complete 159-of-297 passes for 1,964 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season.

Mayo concludes a highly successful career at Lafayette on a high note by earning first-team all-league honors. This season, he averaged 4.5 yards per carry, rushing for 227 yards on 51 carries. He also caught 13 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown.

Beamon earns Second-Team All-Patriot League honors for the third straight season. One of the leaders of Lafayette's defensive secondary this season, he finished fifth on the team with 54 total tackles, and lead the Leopards with 18 pass break-ups. He also tied for the team lead with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Beamon finishes his Lafayette career with 12 interceptions and 49 pass break-ups.

A mainstay on Lafayette's offensive line this season, Royle is the only Leopard to start all 11 games on the offensive line and is one of just five Patriot League players honored on either the first or second team. His pass blocking allowed Lafayette to throw for 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns, while his run blocking helped the Leopards rush for 1,031 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Lafayette concluded its 119th season of college football with a 2-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the Patriot League.
