SYRACUSE, NY - - Lafayette dropped its first game of the season to 19th ranked Syracuse on penalty strokes, 3-2.
The Leopards, who cracked into the top twenty earlier this week, faced their first ranked opponent of the season, as they travelled to Syracuse to face the Big East
foe.
Lafayette found the net first, as Olivia Long (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) scored with just under 27 minutes remaining in the second half.
But Syracuse responded six minutes later, when Michelle Aronowicz scored the first of her two goals on the day.
With a tad under two minutes remaining, Kellee Salber (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) scored unassisted to send the match into overtime. After two scoreless
overtime periods, the Leopards and the Orangewomen headed to penalty strokes.
Syracuse converted its first three shots, and it was all they needed, as only Kim Stone (Newtown, PA/George School) was the only Leopard that found the net.
The Leopards look to recover from a loss for the first time this season, as they return home to the friendly confines of Metzgar Fields for a non-league game against
Cornell on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
