Saporetti Shuts Down La Salle

March 26, 2000

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman pitcher Joe Saporetti tossed a gem, going seven innings and allowing just one earned run, and the Leopard offense exploded for 14 runs, the highest output of the season, en route to a 14-1 victory over host La Salle in the first game of a doubleheader.

Lafayette held a perilous 3-1 lead after three innings, but jumped out to a 13-1 lead after a three inning stint in which the Leopards scored one, four and five runs. Powering that outburst was sophomore shortstop Vince D'Angelis' 3-for-5 day with two RBI and two runs. Also contributing to the output was Ian Burley and Bob Osipower, who both also went 3-for-5. As a team, Lafayette had eight doubles, two each by Burley, D'Angelis and Osipower.

The complete game is Saporetti's first, as well as his first career win. He is now 1-1.
