FORKS TOWNSHIP, PA -
Sophomore right fielder Kelly Wise roped a homerun over the right centerfield wall, driving in three
runs and powering Lafayette (2-7) to a 7-3 defeat of St. Joe's (17-5-1) today.
Lafayette chipped away for two runs in the second and third innings. In the second, second
baseman Liz Siliato singled and drove in Liz Lucisano, who had reached third on consecutive
sacrifices by Kelly Wise and Erin Allison. Lafayette's run in the third came via a Wise
single down the right field line, scoring Alison Scofield, who had advanced to third after a
single, a sacrifice by Becky Chmielowski, and a groundout to the right side by Gina Galati.
Then the Leopards exploded for four runs in the fourth inning, all coming with two out.
Scofield started off the inning with a single, followed by a Chmeilowski walk. Galati then
singled to right field, bringing home Scofield. Wise then hit her shot to right center,
driving in three runs. The Leopards led 6-0.
But St. Joseph's rallied in the next inning, scoring three quick runs to make things
interesting. The Hawks put together four hits around a walk to produce their three runs
in the inning. But it was the only offense St. Joe's could muster on the day, as Erin Hall
pitched a complete game, striking out four. She is now 2-4 on the season.
Lafayette tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and then Hall mowed
down the Hawks 1-2-3, thanks to a double-play grounder scooped up by shortstop Mara Shainheit
and turned by second baseman Siliato.
Lafayette improved to 2-7 after the win, and the Hawks dropped to 17-5-1. Christina
Kowalski picked up the loss for St. Joe's.
