Undefeated Brown Beats Leopards, 1-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (www.lafayette.edu) - Brown's Kim Lanzire fired in a shot from 18 yards out to lead the hosts to a 1-0 victory over Lafayette in women's soccer action at Stevenson Field on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half in which Brown outshot the Leopards 10-4, both teams came out determined to break the tie.

Just 12 minutes into the second half (57:23), Brown senior co-captain Michaela Rooney served the ball to the left side of the field where freshman midfielder Kristin Ferrell was waiting for the pass. She immediately delivered the ball to Lanzire, who was just inside the 18. Lanzire took a few quick dribbles and booted the ball over Lafayette goalie Ashley Wesmiller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and into the net.

This game was the third straight in which Lanzire has scored and the fourth shutout for the 5-0 Brown Bears.

Mary Jo Markle and Sarah Gervais each played a half in goal for Brown. Markle stopped two Lafayette shots, while in the second half, the Lafayette offense failed to get off a single shot.

For the game, Brown outshot Lafayette 25-4 and held a 7-0 advanatge in corner kicks.

Lafayette (3-4) will try to get back on track against another non-conference foe when the Leopards host Albany at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Metzgar Fields.
