WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's indoor track and field team made a stong case for itself at the Army Invitational on Saturday. Facing opposition from Albany, Medgar Evers, Williams, Wagner, and Delhi, the team pulled together for convincing individual victories.
Lafayette senior Rhonda Snyder (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) dominated the throwing events once again, placing first in the 20-lb. weight and shotput. Snyder's mark in the 20 lb. weight throw was 16.5m and her shot put throw was measured at 14.12m. Also finishing first for the Leopards were junior 800-meter runner Erin Wyble (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) and junior 1,000-meter runner Lauren McHale (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City).
Second place Lafayette finishers were Elizabeth Hallowell (Ottsville, Pa./Palisades) in the 200-m dash, Olivia Tosinski (Bernardstown, Mass./Pioneer Valley) in the pole vault and Katie O'Connor (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip)in the triple jump. The women's 4x100 team also placed second with a time of 4:04.30.
"The women had an exceptional meet at Army," said head coach Julio Piazza. "They garnered a number of first place performances that should give them a lot of confidence going into Lehigh next weekend."
The Leopards' next meet is the Lehigh Dual on Jan. 27 in Bethlehem, Pa.
