EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's indoor track and field team opened the new year with a third place finish at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, as it faced competition from St. Joseph's, Maryland-Eastern Shore and the hosting Bison.

Lafayette senior Rhonda Snyder (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) dominated the throwing events, placing first in the 20-lb. weight and shotput. Sophomore Colleen Becker (Rockville Center, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 35'3" while the Lafayette 4x800 team was the runner up with a time of 10:07.22. Junior distance runner Erin Wyble (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) finished third in the mile and fellow distance runner Catherine Carson (York, Pa./Episcopal) earned a third place finish in the 5000-yard run.

"One of the nice results of this first meet back after break was seeing how well the freshmen responded to the time off in between meets," said head coach Julio Piazza.

Bucknell, who also won the men's competition, took the crown with a score of 103 on the day. Maryland-E.Shore (44.5), Lafayette (32) and St. Joe's (16.5) followed for the final team placement.

Lafayette heads to New York on Jan. 12-13 for the Armory Collegiate Invitational. "Both teams are looking forward to going to the Armory Invitational, where they will have the opportunity to run on one of the fastest tracks in the country," Piazza said.
