EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Junior Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the Lafayette field hockey team to its fifth consecutive win to improve to 12-3 for the season. The Leopards defeated Rutgers for the third time in as many years as the Scarlet Knights fall to 3-11 overall.
Monahan tallied her first goal after dribbling half the length of the field to slide in her 14th of the year less than ten minutes into the first half.
The Patriot League's leading scorer was at it again less than a minute later as Monahan put the Leopards up 2-0 off her second unassisted effort of the game.
Rutgers struggled to find some rhythm as they were outshot 8-3 in the first half. The Scarlet Knights were led by midfielder Adrienne Booth who managed to take four shots for the game.
Lafayette had a chance to make it 3-0 when sophomore Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) was awarded a penalty stroke, but her attempt was stopped by Rutger's goalie Stacy Ganzle.
Lafayette's netminder Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) needed just five saves to complete her fourth shutout of the season while facing 12 Rutgers shots. The Scarlet Knight's Ganzle made 10 saves from 18 Lafayette shots.
