EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Bucknell used three goals in the first 25 minutes of the game to hand the Lafayette women's soccer team a 3-0 loss on Saturday night at Metzgar Fields.
Bucknell (9-4, 4-2) scored all three of its goals in a four-minute span midway through the first half. Ashley Dincher scored her first goal of the season at 21:30 following a cornerkick. Dincher, who benefited from a weak defensive clear, kicked a low shot past the Lafayette (10-6, 3-3) keeper to make it 1-0.
Just over a minute later (22:40), on a second cornerkick opportunity, Savannah Rennels headed a shot into the upper left corner of the net for her ninth goal of the season.
At 25:01, Dincher struck again, collecting a ball that had been dropped by the Lafayette keeper on a cross. The goal gave Bucknell a 3-0 lead at the half, a margin that held up through the final 45 minutes.
On a night more conducive to the Iditarod, the Lafayette offense failed to get moving. The Leopards managed just four shots in the game, outshot by Bucknell, 7-4.
Marissa Mullins played the first 35 minutes in goal for Lafayette before being forced to leave the game when she and Rennels collided in the box. Rennels was also forced to leave the game due to injury.
Mullins made one save and allowed three goals. Ashley Wesmiller (Pittsbirgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) came on in relief of Mullins and made three saves in 55 minutes. Laurie Purse earned the shutout in goal for Bucknell after registering one save in 90 minutes.
Lafayette returns to action on Wednesday when the Leopards host Penn in a Halloween matchup.
