COLGATE
Head Coach Dick Biddle: We're happy we won. It was a tough ball game, a game we very well could have lost. We overcame adversity in the fourth quarter and stuck together as a ball club through it to pull out the win.
I thought the defense played well, especially in the second half.
We came back after the interception return for a touchdown and scored, so from my point of view it turned out fine. If we hadn't scored after it, we would have been in trouble. (Werrell) made a great play on the ball and followed it up with a very well timed lateral.
Junior FB Justin Polk: It's very frustrating not scoring in the red zone or just outside of it, and it got more and more frustrating each time we didn't put it in.
We're always going to go out and try and win. That's why we pulled it out today. I just stepped in where I was needed, that's just our team, every week, somebody steps up and plays big.
LAFAYETTE
Head Coach Frank Tavani: This season is going to be 'almost' is not enough. The kids came out and played with a lot of pride. But, the thing that was most disturbing to me was we were in the scoring zone four times and we didn't score. Colgate is known for its defense. I knew they were big but was amazed when I saw them on the field the first time.
On upcoming schedule: It doesn't get any easier. We have three more games and we have to get over the hump. Almost isn't enough.
On the little mistakes: When you are trying to be a good football team you can't make those kinds of mistakes. We are trying to turn that corner and we self destruct. We will finish out this season hard. There are still three W's out there waiting for us.
Senior DB Jeff Werrell on the interception return: I know I have flat responsibilities. I went out on the field and the quarterback threw the ball right at me. It was the first time that had happened all season. I caught it and ran it back. I saw Adriel and I think he thought I was going to cut back and so he was going to block for me. But all I could think was he ran a 4.4 in trials and I didn't come close to that. So I game it to him. I knew if I didn't pitch the ball I would have been tackled.
Senior LB Adriel Linyear on the interception return: I was yelling at him to cut back and the next thing I knew the ball was in my lap.
Sophomore TB Joe McCourt on his career-high 160 yards rushing: I've got to give credit to our offensive line. They were hitting today and giving us the coverage. We came out pretty flat in the second half. We had opportunities to put the ball in the end zone and we didn't.
