EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - For the seventh time in 15 games in the 2001 season, the Lafayette men's soccer team took a game to overtime, this time battling to a 1-1 tie with Colgate on Saturday.

It was the Leopards' third non-decision of the season which moves their record to 7-4-4, 1-3-2 in Patriot League play. Colgate goes to 4-10-1, 1-3-1.

Both goals came in the first 20 minutes of the game, Colgate struck first at 11:52 off a cornerkick. After a weak clearance by the Lafayette defense, Marc Hubbard collected the ball and knocked in a shot off a Lafayette defender.

Lafayette evened the score just over seven minutes later, also on a cornerkick. Senior Keith Evans (La Plata, Md./La Plata) took the corner and served to sophomore Matt Battiste (Niscayuna, N.Y./Niscayuna). Battiste headed the ball to an awaiting Jamie Mullarkey (Cramlington, England/Cramlington) who banged home the goal.

Neither team could get much offense going in the second half. Lafayette held a slight shot advantage, 3-2. The defensive game continued into the first overtime session when neither team managed to get a shot off.

The second overtime however was full of opportunities for both teams. In a five-second span, Colgate managed to fire off three shots, two of which resulted in saves by sophomore keeper Jay Freedman (Dix Hills, N.Y.). Lafayette too, had its chances, the last of which came with seven seconds left when Paulo Coelho (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) headed a ball off the post.

Freedman made six saves in 120 minutes for Lafayette and Colgate's Will Martin collected three saves.
